Construction of a green roof

Vegetation

Extensive vegetation consisting of various species of Sedum - these are 'succulents'. Can be installed using cuttings, plug plants or sedum vegetation mats (pre-cultivated).

Substrate layer

Relatively thin substrate layer (5-7cm) consisting of mineral rocks e.g. Lava, bims and a small amount of organic material where vegetation takes root and provides cover over time (e.g. 60% after one year).

Filter layer

Separation layer between substrate and drainage. Allows excess water to pass through and makes the water in the drainage layer available to the vegetation through condensation.

Drainage layer

Drain excess water to roof drains. This layer may contain water reservoirs that provide an additional water buffer. There are many different options as drainage, feel free to ask for more info!

Protection and absorption layer

Protection of the roof against mechanical damage; at the same time, it also buffers a quantity of water.

Roofing

Root-resistant roof waterproofing.
